High Temperature
Having problems of intense-scorching heat, here in the Po Valley, Northern Italy and Verona, we are always looking for solutions that are not too invasive to provide for this terrible problem, which in some cases also leads to crop failure in late spring-summer productions.
We used to try to manage the pre-harvest setting phase focusing on climate management in greenhouses, because mostly raspberries here in Verona
are grown in greenhouses, in Italy first of all, therefore, on very hot days, temperatures really increase heavily,
coming to have problems with bad quality fruits; and therefore, finding the solution, at least to help with this problem, it’s always a continuous, daily search.
When is too hot, the raspberry plant goes into temperature stress, the stomata of the leaves tend to close, the plant freezes for self-defense,
then the whole lymphatic process, basically what favors the quality of the fruit in size, color, hardness, taste, etc., stops to allow the plant to survive, to not to die, then all the energy, instead of being channeled into the peripheral zone, of the fruits, is kept inside the plant to let it survive overheating.
What happens? It happens that the fruit no longer receives nutrients no longer receives the humidity from the plant needed for gaining size, therefore, you have very poor-quality fruits which on the market are not very appreciated, also, because we deal with the summer production, with the countries of Northern Europe, where there is a cooler climate, a great thermal range from day to night, much more favorable weather conditions, and consequently: you can either stop planting certain crops during the summer or you must find methods for being able to overcome the difficulties; you can sell small fruits too, but with no satisfying price.
I would like to tell my experience regarding “Zerostress” product, which we tried especially on raspberry, as a matter of stress maintenance for temperature changes, especially for summer heat; We’ve started testing “Zerostress” last season by foliar intervention, and we had excellent results; with “Zerostress” we really had very good results.
Naturally, the matter of dosing, timing of application, etc. needs to be perfected but I think we will make it soon, without problems.
The stomata close, and the plant can do photosynthesis. No product can do this!
