I am the owner of the Sweet Cherry farm holding, which is here behind me: It’s a farm of about six hectares in the province of Verona, mostly cultivated with cherries and small fruits; we have an office under construction in Northern Europe too, in the North of Poland, near the Baltic Sea, but We started the construction phase this year, so the first productive year will be this one.
As a business in parallel with the production activity, I have a consultancy firm that operates in the sector of small fruits and cherries as well, Which operates throughout Europe, as well as in Italy.
Transplant Stress
During the transplant phase, generally in Northern Italy, as regards raspberry, we are used to plant between the end of April and the beginning of March, so, some years we already face an important heat, and therefore even in that physiological phase we always try to find some way to succeed in putting the plant in the optimal conditions for being able to take root as soon as possible, then for the engraftment of the plant, for facing the autumn harvest optimally; just for trying to put the root system, which is usually inside the vase, because we grow the small fruits 90% of the time in above-ground hydroponic systems, in the conditions for being able to take root faster, trying to keep them free from fungus, or from problems of too much humidity or overheating, to help the roots in their own development, that’s all.
Usually we have always used natural products based on Mycorrize, Trichoderma, Nematodes on the blueberry; after several years of tests, of several experiences of failure, we also tried this product for transplants and also in fertigation; We have been trying for a couple of years to perfect the timing of application of this product and we have seen that actually even in case of sudden temperature drops, as happened a couple of years ago here in the province of Verona, when practically, 15 days away from the picking, a cold current has arrived, there had been a frost at the end of April, the rows treated, the portions of the farm treated regularly, once a week, have shown 50-60% less damage; so, we are very happy, and we will definitely go ahead.
Starting with healthy and well-developed plants allows you to reduce various cultivation problems and to have time to enjoy your life.
